“Make A Song for My Heart to Sing”

In the afternoon of July 2nd, 2011, the Singing Hearts Children’s Choir, in association with the Shanghai Conservatory Music Department, held a demonstration performance in the media center of Ruijin Community. Over 60 members joined this performance and over 300 guests attended. This activity was aimed at increasing communication and mutual learning for all of the different classes in the Choir, as well as showing the achievements of the past semester.
During the performance, the Chorus Class adopted the Orff teaching method and combined chorus basic practice to present a wide range of musical cultures from different countries through singing, rhythm cooperation and instrument playing. The 1st Chorus Class performed the Canon and 2-Part Choir works. During their strong performance, instructors were able to determine which sections could be improved for future recitals. The 2nd Chorus Class, which performed first, had an outstanding performance of the song “Little Raindrop,” which received great applause from the audience. With regard to the 3rd Chorus Class, although the members only had one semester of learning experience, their voice was beautiful and warmed the entire audience with their dedication and passion to singing.
This demonstration performance was an opportunity to show the progressive nature of the different teaching objectives within the Singing Hearts Children’s Choir. It also demonstrated how the overall Singing Hearts’ teaching concept has inspired children’s artistic potential and allowed their voices to touch both audiences and fellow members of the Choir.
